Videos about my tours…

I hope you will check out the newest addition to my website – short video clips featuring me talking about my tours. Thanks so much to my stepdaughter Rachael Burrows who filmed and edited these for me. All were unscripted so consequently there was the odd mistake by me, most of which have also been kept for you to enjoy….

Return to Iran

With Jill Worrall and Reza Mirkhalaf-Zadeh

April 1 – April 22 2018, approx

Three Places Still Available.

It’s been a few years since I and Reza (in my opinion THE best guide in Iran) have been able to organise a tour together and we’re not sure if there will be another one! So, we’ve tried to include as much as we can in this itinerary without making it too exhausting.

Iran is one of the least-understood countries in the world and always astonishes first-timers with the warmth and friendliness of its people, the magnificence of its traditional architecture and the depth and drama of its history.  It’s becoming more of a mainstream destination these days so come with me soon before it is truly swamped!

Highlights: Tehran’s best museums, including the incomparable State Jewels; the World Heritage Listed Tabriz bazaar; St Stephanos Armenian Church; Kerman and the Prince’s Garden; Yazd (Towers of Silence, Zoroastrian fire temples and historic old quarter), Persepolis and Shiraz; Isfahan (mosques historic bridges and fantastic shopping!)

Arctic Adventure

A rare and unique cruise to remote Franz Josef Land

July 2 – July 21, 2018
Price: Contact me for more info.

Tour limited to 12 people

Jill Worrall Tours is delighted to be the only tour operator in New Zealand to be offering this journey. Places on this tour are very strictly limited for what will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel through a world of icebergs, glacier-capped peaks and abundant wildlife including polar bears and walrus.

Land with polar ice caps and glaciers melting at an alarming rate this truly is a tour to do now before this incredible part of the world changes for ever.

Beginning in Longyearbyen on the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard, one of the world’s last great wildernesses where polar bears outnumber people, we will embark on a 14-night cruise aboard the luxurious MV Sea Spirit (see at the end of the itinerary for more details about our vessel). Our route will take us across the Barents Sea to remote, Franz Josef Land, a volcanic, glaciated archipelago only discovered about 150 years ago. Franz Josef Land is Russian territory.

This was once a major stopping point for famous polar explorers making the often deadly passage to the North Pole. So, not only will we be in a world of unforgettable scenery but we will be following in the footsteps of some of the world’s great adventurers. This archipelago is only accessible for a few weeks every year.

National Geographic has described these islands having pristine land and underwater environments. They are home to polar bears, walrus, and rare species of whale including narwhal, beluga and bowhead.

Because the cruise season on the Arctic is so short, demand for space on the cruises is intense. We are so excited to have secured room for a maximum of 12 passengers. Jill will be accompanying you all the way from New Zealand and even on the ship which has a maximum capacity of 114 passengers, she will taking extra good care of her own group, (as will the crew of 94!)

Our 12 places are being shared with one of Jill’s most trusted operators so this is absolutely a case of book now to secure your place because if we do not fill them in New Zealand they will certainly be filled from elsewhere.

Walking Ireland’s Pilgrim Paths

New Tour for 2018! – Departs on August 28, 2018

Ireland is one of my absolute favourite destinations and walking is one of the best ways to appreciate its beautiful countryside and fascinating history. Of course, Ireland is easy to visit as an independent traveller but, if you want to walk without doubling back and with the safety of having an experienced and knowledgeable guide to get the best out of your experience, visit some islands as well AND truly encounter Ireland at its very best, this guided tour is perfect.

Ireland has only recently begun to promote its wonderful network of historic Pilgrim Paths, so these are still unspoilt and uncrowded, especially as we have timed this tour to miss the peak summer season. We will be accompanied by my good friend, Frank, who is not only a highly experienced walking guide but who, thanks partly to his background as a high school teacher, has a fantastic knowledge of Ireland’s history, geography, culture and religious heritage. He’s also lots of fun and knows where all the very best, non-touristy pubs are!

An added bonus on this tour is a visit to Skellig Michael off the coast of County Kerry. Thanks to its starring role in the latest Star Wars film, this spectacular island has been almost impossible for independent to travellers to reach. Our operator, however, has a private charter boat so we will be some of the lucky ones!

  • Walk sections of five of Ireland’s designated Pilgrim Paths.
  • Climb Ireland’s holy mountain, Croagh Patrick, and Mt Brandon for good measure!
  • Visit Skellig Michael – access to this island is now highly restricted.
  • Explore two of the beautiful Aran Islands.
  • Visit the medieval monastic site of Glendalough in Co. Wicklow, Gallarus on Dingle Peninsula and the historic Rock of Cashel.
  • Be guided around the 5200-year-old Newgrange passage tomb in Co. Meath.
  • Be treated to the best in authentic Irish music in some great pubs throughout our tour.
  • Savour 17 full Irish breakfasts and two included dinners.

Moorish Spain, Gibraltar and Morocco with Jill

We are going to follow the footsteps of the Moors, (the descendants of North Africa Berbers and Arabs who ruled Spain from the 8th to the 15th centuries), beginning in Morocco. We will visit the legendary cities of Casablanca, Fez and Marrakech and cross the High Atlas Mountains to spend a night in a Saharan desert camp Then it’s over the strait to Gibraltar, that tiny British territory that was once part of the Moors’ empire, and into Andalucía, the heart of Moorish Spain

Highlights: Morocco –  City tours of exotic Fez and Marrakech; crossing the High Atlas; a night in the Sahara with optional camel ride; romantic boutique-style hotels; Gibraltar city tour; Spain –  Granada’s Alhambra,  Seville’s Gothic Cathedral; la Mezquita, Cordoba; Toledo, the city of three cultures; Madrid.

Northern India

Nov 8 – Nov 28, 2018

Prepared by a local Indian expert and personal friend of mine, this India tour combines all the must-see sites with some extra special, exclusive extras. Of course, there is the Taj Mahal and a boat ride on the Ganges but there’s a lot more too to give you a more close-up and personal experience of India, including the legendary Pushkar Camel Fair.

India can seem a bit daunting for first-timers but I’ve been there numerous times and, together with my local expert, we will make sure you enjoy every minute of it.

Highlights: Delhi and a chance to help out in a Sikh temple community kitchen; dawn and dusk visits to the Taj Mahal; tiger and leopard sanctuaries; Jaipur and Amber Fort; Pushkar camel fair; Mehrangarh Fort champagne tour in Jodphur;  Udaipur and lake cruise; Thar desert overnight camp; Varanasi and Ganges River trip; Khajuraho temples.
