Since 2004 Jill has spent an increasing amount of time overseas leading tours for a small New Zealand-based company, Tours Direct. During this time she has taken tours to India, Bhutan, Central Asia, Iran, Syria, Jordan, Libya, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. After multiple journeys through Bhutan and Iran in particular she has built up in-depth knowledge of these countries and best of all has made many friends around the world. She feels privileged to be regarded as part of families in Iran and Jordan in particular. Jill works exclusively for Tours Direct. She likes the small company atmosphere, the attention to detail and perhaps best of all the willingness of Tours Direct to let her visit and take tours to places well off the beaten tourist track. She has also made some wonderful friends among her fellow travellers - another of her job’s highlights. Usually at least a third of any of Jill’s tour groups members have already travelled with her at least once before. Her tour priorities are simple (if not always easy to achieve in some countries) - make sure everyone has the best-ever holiday with as few worries as possible and that they have the opportunity to gain some insights into the countries they are visiting, preferably through as much contact with local people as possible. She prefers Bhutanese night clubs and evenings in Iranian tea houses to early morning walks, has to count aloud to make sure all her group is present and has declined at least six marriage proposals (one involving the offer of numerous camels and some very nice date palms) while on tour. Wow - what a woman. She was brilliant. I 'loved' her from the first page of 'A
Blonde in the Bazaar' and couldn't wait to travel with her. I loved the stories
she told us on the bus, the morning teas she arranged etc. I felt as if I was
travelling with an old friend rather than as part of a paid tour.
Thank you for putting together such a wonderful trip. Every time I got my haw back into place you provided another jaw-dropping experience.
What can you say about Jill? She's the absolute best there is. Everything she
does is aimed at getting the most out of the trip for the punters, and, with
very few minor exceptions, everything goes like clockwork. Brilliant.
What a wonderful trip – I’m so glad you and others told me I “had” to go to
Iran, as it was just amazing. I loved the history and the caravanserai, the
stunning tilework and architecture, the beautiful gardens, the lovely, friendly,
welcoming people…….. – I could go on and on (as I did to Richard today!). Then,
of course, there was the unbeatable combination of you and Reza making it all
happen and contributing so much, all the little extras, the poetry readings I
enjoyed so much (I want to hear them when I’m driving in my car!!)………. Truly
magical!
There is nothing bad I can say about the trip.--- the hotels,flights and then
there is Jill and Reza--- welll, I was blown away by the effort they made to
make our tour amazing. Reza, with his knowledge was incredable and Jill
professionalism was second to none. I would love to do the trip again.!!!!!
Jill was wonderful as usual. Kept us all in good spirits. All the little extra
touches kept coming, tea, ice-creams, etc in exotic locales. Trip ran smoothly,
busses always arrived, meals in great locations. She knows the area so well that
she puts on a fabulous trip.
What can we say - the best leader we have ever had and we'vedone enought trips
to judge - she is very personable, knowledgable, passionate about the country,
attentive to detail, has a talent for working the group resulting in a great
experience for all.
Jill is a joyous traveller, and, as such, enriches the experience for all who
travel with her.
I'd like to say how much I enjoyed the tour and what great company to be with this. We had so much fun along the way not least because of our super tour leader.
We had a great time and would recommend Cuba and Tours Direct to others.
Jill was just wonderful, At times she had so many options I wondered how she
knew who was doing what but it all turned out well in the end.
Jill was a delight & easily combines two of the most important functions of a
tour leader, on one hand being authoritative when necessary, but also
maintaining a friendly approach at the same time. Her handling of the odd
'situation' was quiet & efficient & was quite the best tour leader that we have
experienced. I must include the term raconteur as well. We are sure that her
friendships she has developed with the local peoples really adds something to
making touring with her a more pleasurable experience.

- It started with your excellent pre tour news letters and just continued - the
tour leader can make a BIG difference to a trip - as we know from experience - and
you are the BEST.
